Where: Mattress Factory Museum 505 Jacksonia St [Parking Lot], Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15212
When: Tuesday, December 9th Doors open at 6:30pm, discussion begins at 7pm
The Mattress Factory has teamed up with Conflict Kitchen to present a panel discussion about the challenges of making, supporting and presenting art about Palestine, Israel and the US.
Conflict Kitchen’s Palestinian version has recently come under criticism from several lobbying groups, media outlets, and a local funder. Come discuss the circumstances that have informed this criticism, the artistic freedom at stake in this process and the challenges of presenting Palestinian perspectives in America. We will be joined by The Mattress Factory and curator Tavia La Folette, who have recently dealt with some similar issues, from a different perspective, during their canceled exhibition: “Borders, Walls and Citizenship.”
Featured panelists will include:
Tavia La Follette, ArtUp
Barbara Luderowski, Michael Olijnyk, Mattress Factory Museum
Jon Rubin, Dawn Weleski, Conflict Kitchen
Germaine Williams, The Pittsburgh Foundation
Moderated by: Joseph del Pesco, Kadist Art Foundation
Doors open at 6:30pm, discussion begins at 7pm. FREE but seating is extremely limited. To confirm your participation, email rsvp@mattress.org
